Research Interests:
I am currently working on obtaining my masters in marine science from the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University. Research for my thesis will be conducted in the Marine Animal Disease Lab, under the guidance of Dr. Bassem Allam. My thesis research will look at the impact of environmental factors on the reproductive sucess of the Atlantic Surfclam Spisula solidissima. There has been a significant decline of the surfclam population in New York waters since 2002. Over this time there has been an increased prevalence of gonadal abnormalities within the population. I will be studying the effect increasing water temperature has on surfclam energetic balance and reproductive sucess. This will be studied in a variety of ways including a laboratory experiment and health surveillance of the current surfclam population. I will also examine historical population and temperature data for a relationship between temperature and recruitment sucess. This research is funded by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
My general scientific interests include shellfish biology and ecology. I am also interested in restoration ecology, specifically of the hard clam Mercenaria mercenaria in the Great South Bay.

These are pictures I took overseas in the summer of 2007. The picture to the left is the Mediterranean Sea and the picture to the right is the Dead Sea. Enjoy!
